Robbing Hood

13th Longday

Adventure begins. Hiding in the Kavil Forest in an outlaw camp the party, a group of outlaws sleep in a cave. A few other fighters and thieves shelter here. Forest is quite dangerous so Aragorn’s troops avoid the place. Aragorn’s troops are in Lanmere preparing to attack Larrowmor and the dwarves.
Jyla returns from trip to Merenbrook, very happy with success. Has robbed a Duke of Aragorn’s army and gained information on a special convoy coming from Greydale [through Firith - Merenbrook – Rew – to Nyr D’nar] transporting Aragorn’s treasure. Guarded by 20 human troops. Currently convoy in Firith awaiting fresh horses.
Takmor attempts to pick pockets on Aspen, everyone notices. Aspen attempts to hit Tak but bursts out laughing [Aspen is still cursed after bet with Griss] which defuses tension.

Igelkordok uses Magic Mirror to check convoy guards: –
20 guards, human, wearing symbols of Praetorian guard. 2 Decurians – 1 undead warrior (wearing symbols of Green Lady; pos. Sir Pedigore carrying 2-H sword) – human male wearing crown, well clothed and carrying dagger [Praetorian guard?]

14th Longday

Plan an ambush at border of Turse and Kursaval (originally travelled to Merrenbrook to consider ambush there. Decided against it. Tak claims to have been robbed whilst scouting town! Retreat to border and rest until morning).

15th Longday

Ambush takes place. Randall Fireballs the rearguard, Radathal, Kurngrim and Igelkordok start fighting main troops. A skeleton warrior climbs out of wagon. Once the man with crown dies the skeleton warrior runs for the crown and dissolves. The surviving guards flee.
Randall uses Mount to transport chests back to cave as wagon destroyed by fire. Nero and Skarra hide their trail. The chests are examined.

Three Chests: Taken to the cave hideout of the outlaws. Igelkordok checks for magic, Nero checks for traps. Thieves pick locks.

I. Not trapped. Contains 9”x6”x4” ornately carved bone box. Approx 5lbs weight, hollow with many small objects inside. No visible seal. Box has mixture of magic: enchantment/invocation/alteration.
The box is magically sealed and can only be opened with the correct command word (discovered via Identify spell).

II. Not trapped. Contains 10 scrolls in scroll tubes - all necromantic magic.
Checked 3 scrolls, each is Protection from Undead – primed and ready to cast, and Control Undead. The latter can be learnt.

III. Not trapped. Contains 3 vials – necromantic magic. Labelled in Kursavalian as `Special Healing`. These are actually Potions of Elf Slaying, a poison specially designed to kill elves (discovered via Identify spell).

Igelkordok worries that instead of treasure (gems/jewels/coins, etc) that we thought we were stealing, they have taken something much more valuable which they will be hunted down for. Decide to move outlaws – head S.E towards gnomish mountains.

16th Longday

Radigan backtracks to make sure nobody is following. We rest during the day. The Tursans (Igelkordok, Randall & Nero – all mages) examine the scrolls (findings recorded above).
Party infighting. Tak steals Kurngrim’s pouch. Kurngrim beserks and Tak is knocked out. Kurngrim held by Nero’s Hold Person until the party calm down.

Tak lied about purse being stolen in city, attempting to cover up any thefts she made. Jyla spotted this and took pouch back.

17th Longday

Rest of outlaws return to cave hideout. Party continue – attacked by wild boar: kill it (Kurngrim/Igelkordok).
Jyla returns to group with a note pinned to outskirts of Kavil Forrest.

To the thieves who stole my treasure from the wagon by the towers on the border of Turse and Kursival.
Return my possessions immediately or I will execute 10 citizens of Rew on 21st Longday and another 10 every four days thereafter until they have been returned.

Pilus Prior Rattian Elf Slayer

Try to open the box, no luck. Head towards cave en route to Rew (other bandits have relatives there and would not be happy if they died). During the night a Demon of Allaveer approaches the camp wanting the Bone Box. The party have no idea what it is. It is cat-like, semi-bipedal, furred and alters colour according to its surroundings, it has a huge jump (180'+),Teleports at will and has magic resistance, high dex and great AC.

Assuming it is a hungry animal Igelkordok laid out food, which it ignored, instead it moved towards Randall’s mule. Afraid that it wanted live meat the group attack it. Randall's Web  misses.  Igelkordok fails to Polymorph Other. A wolf then jumps into the clearing and attacks the creature. Tak attacks the wolf whilst the rest of the party attack the creature. All three mages Fly, it attacks Igelkordok jumping 180’ to get him. Igelkordok uses Spectral Hand and Vampiric Touch on the creature to regain some health. The creature is hit only a few times but eventually leaves, after which wolf also departs.

18th Longday

Return to cave. Igelkordok casts Identify on the Bone Box and the potions (findings recorded above). Can’t Dispel Magic on box. Whilst this is attempted mule enters cave and can hear Cat make noises outside somewhere though can’t see it.

19th Longday

Igelkordok uses Magic Mirror to scry on Rew: -
Castle & Cathedral are devastated. ¼ mile to West of town lies a wooden fort. Large wooden building in centre, several tents around it, all Roman style, palisade, moat etc. Focus on cat-creature. In another forest, lush green vegetation (Allaveer's domain). Talking in Allathian to human males in white robes [presumably not Larrowmor Forest then]. Other cat-creatures are present, some have horns.
At this point the mirror explodes into Igelkordok’s face.
Igelkordok is now blind and face is scarred [Charisma drops to 3]. Randall finds herbs and puts a poultice on his eyes which turns into a black gunk – a poison normally only found in marshland (Igelkordok is cursed now as well). Rest of group moved on, head towards Rew before people start to get executed.

Arrive at Duke Torman’s former hunting lodge. The Hunting lodge is made up of 3 buildings, 4 small peasant huts, a barn, ditch and fence. All the buildings have been trashed and the Duke’s lodge burnt to the ground.
There are 2 horsemen in the yard (wearing studded leather armour, no symbols, and carrying spears), they are standing over some sacking (there is a hint of gold from within, seems to be some kind of body, pos. dead). Group attacks, Radigan stabs one guard with dagger – paralysed, Nero then charms that guard. The other guard is attacked and killed by the rest of the party.
A couple of daggers are then thrown at Takmor and then Ruben the Red appears demands we hand over all our possessions. Radigan sneaks up and stabs him with her poisoned knife, he becomes paralysed. Gelmor appears from the woods and stabs her in the back. A man, a gnome, and another person step out of woods from the opposite side of the clearing. The man is identified by Aspen as Duke Torman. The others reveal themselves as Gelmor[fighter], Friar Balahurst [the Gnome], and Phaxen [really big guy]. The figure in the sacking gets up – identifies himself as Salai the Bronze [a half-dragon, half-elf, bard]. Salai had been the bait for an ambush of the two guards we encountered. The group explains it would not be right to steal from them as we were on our way to rescue the villagers. The Duke agrees and so the rest follow his lead. The charmed guard and Nero enter the Hunting Lodge where he is questioned and then sent back to the fort with a message for Pilus Prior, giving details of a meeting place (at edge of White Forest) where an exchange between the treasure and the villagers could be made (meeting planned at midnight so priests of Mallus could not attend; as they have to pray).

Information from guard is as follows:
The Rew walls are crumbling. The Castle and Lugnae’s Temple are in ruins – both are said to be haunted.
At the fort there are: 300 skeletons. & 50 – 60 humans.
Prisoners: 9 peasants are being held in the stockade in the main building.
1 elf, Hiren von Stankorst, held elsewhere.
Guards: Most troops stay at the fort and patrol around it.

Torman tells us:
10 citizens of Rew have been taken to the fort. It is of vital importance to get them out, one of them is a contact (spy) for the Queen [The eldest daughter of Alexander XVI survived - Queen Tulia]. She is being sheltered by the Dwarves of Fallagar.

20th Longday

Party moves towards Rew. Skarra and Aspen stay at the fort whilst the rest go to the planned ambush. Igelkordok is left somewhere safe in the forest (whilst he is blind he is a liability).
The main party get to ambush site at midnight. Expecting Rattian alone was a mistake, he turns up accompanied by 100 skeletons, 3 humans on horses, 20 humans on foot. The leading rider is Rattian, wearing platemail, carrying longsword. Horse is in full barding. The two accompanying riders each wear chainmail, the first has an unbarded horse, the second has chain-barded horse and carries a shortsword.
The prisoners are shackled, one, very fat prisoner is probably the elf, Hiren. Kurngrim stands in the clearing with the chest (the Bone Box is meanwhile with Igelkordok) and talks to the lone rider. She identifies herself and gives him the chest, she then starts unshackling the prisoners.
Nero fails a Charm spell.
The riders check the chest and discover the deception. As the peasants run Kurngrim attacks.
Radithun attempts to shoot Rattian who is riding up.
Aspen tumbles the horse and fails to hit Rattian with a very good attack (AC – 7: 2nd Ed at this point). Aspen gets hit quite hard.
Kurngrim kills one human and starts on another but is fortunately influenced by Randall and runs. Everyone runs and Kurngrim is helped out by Randall. Nero, who had been levitating was unable to escape and so is captured by the skeletal warriors.
Meanwhile … Skarra uses Invisibility and Polymorphs into a bat and flies over forts walls. Travelling to the main building he destroys most of the Basillica with fire magic.

22nd Longday

Skarra takes Igelkordok along with him to pray. Allaveer answers.
Igelkordok has personally offended her by attacking one of her pets and then "looking where he should not look." Skarra asks if  Igelkordok can atone, as his powers are needed. Skarra volunteers to take personal responsibility for Igelkordok’s actions, so if Igelkordok messes up they would both get punished ten fold. As his prayers end Igelkordok opens his eyes and is able to see. He is eternally grateful and Skarra makes him promise to behave and not offend Allaveer. Meanwhile Tak sneaks into Rew to find information about Nero, she talks to the Captain of the guards. Tak can not find anything but concludes there is no other place to keep prisoners than at the fort.
Igelkordok develops a cunning plan – Polymorph animals into Nero’s form and swap them when Nero is rescued. Unfortunately Allaveer will not like this, and exact likenesses can not be produced.
Igelkordok casts Invisibility on Skarra he goes to meet Randall and Aspen at the clearing.
Igelkordok casts Tongues on Skarra, Skarra asks Hiren if he has Invisibility to Undead , which he does not. Though Hiren is able to Turn Undead
Company decides to attack at midnight once again (to remove priests of Mallus from the battle as they have to pray).

The party leave the castle and Skarra spots a small figure which appears to have been spying on the group/castle. The figure runs and some people chase it but are unable to catch up with it. Igelkordok follows it into an alley but it has disappeared. Instead the party run to the fort. Skarra casts Hallucinatory Forest and the uses fire magic to burn the fort's walls. The rest of the party wade through the forest and arrive with Skarra.
Skarra prepares to cast Flame Walk on the party but Kurngrim Berserks and charges the flaming gates, she knocks herself down as she hits the doors and sets herself ablaze. Group walks in and Randall Knocks the gates. Group enters.
Rather than the expected (or at least hoped for) panic and chaos, the enemy seem quite prepared.
Nero and Aspen are tied to stakes near the entrance and surrounded by approximately 200 undead archers. Igelkordok spots what’s about to happen and casts Sheet of Ice over the whole army crushing them all, also covering Nero and Aspen, killing the latter. The troops behind them are now more clearly visible, 100 skeletons with spears and 12 mounted Decurians.
Randall casts Fireball at the 2nd row killing 12 mounted men and 15 skeletons. The other party members advance and engage.
Skarra casts Protection from Undead and goes to Nero’s post. Radigund notices the Hallucinatory Forest has disappeared, whilst Igelkordok steps back from main group to look about.
The skeletons throw spears: Igelkordok hit five times, Randall thrice, Radigund thrice, Kurngrim four times and Radithal is missed completely.
Igelkordok spots 100 mounted skeletons on undead horses with lances and 12 mounted Decurians also Rattian.
The cavalry charge they are all split up in 10 groups with one Decurian leading. Igelkordok manages to hit 2 groups with one fireball and wipes them out. The skeletal cavalry move in. Nero is missed by both the skeletal cavalry attacking him as is Radigund . Radigund spots one of the Decurians with Rattian apparently sacrificing someone – possibly part of a Summoning ritual. Radigund tries to climb the walls but falls as they are still hot from the fire.
Igelkordok casts Ice Sheet on the reforming cavalry within the fort killing 20 skeletal cavalry and 1 Decurian. Kurngrim still fighting within the compound also kills a Decurian.
More cavalry attack and Igelkordok blasts them with a Fireball killing 2 Decurians, 20 skeletal cavalry and also Tak, who was within the firing range but Igelkordok had not spotted.
Kurngrim had charged Rattian and successfully hit him. Rattian then hits her back and she falls unconscious. Rattian and the other Decurians ride off, the undead stop motionless.
Igelkordok casts Fly and chases them but is unable to keep up, Skarra had also pursued them in bat form and believed they were heading to Hornwick.
Party dispose of motionless undead.

Kills:

Igelkordok: 200 archers & 60 cavalry (undead), 5 Decurians, Aspen & Tak. (It was an accident!)
Randall: 12 horsemen, 15 undead spearmen.
Kurngrim: 5 undead spearmen, 1 Decurian
Takmor: 5 undead spearmen.
